What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

• effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration

• tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire

• access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Inner Sydney High School caters for students who are considered to be High Potential or Gifted, in the four domains including intellectual, creative, physical and social-emotional.

Learning sessions have inbuilt extension activities for students who need to be challenged at a higher level. Although our classes are mixed ability, there is the opportunity for all students to excel as coursework is differentiated.

Inner Sydney High School offers a range of exciting and challenging activities and competitions.

These include:

• Game Changer Challenge
• Tournament of Minds
• ICAS examinations
• Pursue Your Passion (PYP) HPGE Masterclass, including projects on History and visits to the Australian Museum, as well as our Poetry Slam project run by an external agency
• A range of public speaking, debating and other external competitions such as Big Science.

• Music ensembles
